The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Entrance Exam [GATE] is carried out by the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) along with the Indian Institute of Sciences. The GATE is planned as for admitting able applicants into the many Postgraduate engineering courses in the IIT as well other dignified institutes in India. GATE has objective style questions covering broad range of topics in the chosen engineering stream. There are multiple types of objectice questions carrying different kind of marks and the difficulty level attached to these questions also change accordingly.

Syllabus for GATE exam

The general aptitude section is a common paper in the GATE question papers. As the GATE exam is written to get admission in specialization subjects, the candidates are required to prepare for the desired subject of interest. The details of the syllabus can be acquired from the official website of the GATE. Candidates have an option to write the GATE exam either online or offline method.

Question pattern of GATE

The GATE exam paper will comprise of questions for 150 marks. The duration of the exam is 3 hours. The question paper will include objective type questions with multiple choices and it will be separated into 3 groups. They are:

Group I – This group will carry 20 questions of 20 marks.
Group II – This group will contain 55 questions. These questions will take in 2 marks each. The total marks of this group are 110 marks. Out of these, 5 questions will be general data based.
Group III – This group will bear 10 questions. Each question will take in 2 marks each. These questions are known as Linked questions. The solution to the 2nd question of each pair will be connected to the appropriate result to the 1st question in the pair.

The candidates will have an option to choose from 4 given answers. Candidates will have to mark the right answer on the answer sheet by shading the correct oval. If the first answer to a link pair in incorrect, the subsequent question won’t be evaluated. For every other wrong answer, negative mark of 25 percent will be taken away.
